Official Junk, Overpriced, etc. Thread

Just had to share this one. 600 bucks for a old halogen traffic advisor, a single strobe beacon, and a beat up backrack. Im going to say this is a little over priced...

Whelen Light Bar and Controller

The way I read it, he is also selling the beacon and the steel rack to which both lights are mounted. It's still not a great deal, but it somewhat justifies his asking price.

WHAT...Strobe I don't think so. How much...........Some one is high.

I was going to email the seller and ask what model it is, as I wasn't aware that there was a strobe version of the Firebeam! The other option was to ask the seller how many were included in the deal at that price.

While that is a strobe, FS did make the Vista in LED; the Vista SL. My dept used them before switching to the Valor.

I should be a butt and just message him about every single thing wrong with the beacon then offer $50 bucks for it :D . Good grief, some people think they've got gold....

That's not nice...be more believable...email him, and ask him if he'll ship it for free if you pay the BIN price. Then, after he says yes, tell him that you looked at the photos more closely, and realized what a piece of junk it is.

I agree with you on that. I was just looking at some of the vintage sirens on ebay earlier, and I couldn't believe what I saw. One was a Sterling Big Chief siren priced at over $2,000. Not surprised at that one, as I know the seller.

I had placed several bids on this vista strobe bar ,then retracted my bids. Cause I wanted to see what his reserve was. Wow it was $250 & when I asked about shipping he said $175 thru usps.

I've sold only one item on ebay...I listed the shipping charges upfront, and I had a reserve on the item. A buyer wanted to find out what the reserve was (he asked me, and when I politely wouldn't tell him, he got very nasty). He kept bidding on it until he hit the reserve, and then retracted his bid. According to ebay rules, the only time you're allowed to retract a bid if it's a mistake, and then, you're supposed to enter a new bid (which my potential buyer did not do). I complained to ebay, and I believe they suspended him for a period of time. According to ebay, placing a bid is a contract...you shouldn't bid if you're not willing to buy it at that price. If the price is too high, or you're not really interested in purchasing the item, don't bid.

You were probably quoted shipping via Express Mail. The eBay seller is Zone 4 relative to you, so a 40 lb package would cost $177.30 to ship.

I was about to say that... Never got around to posting on here. Then I saw the ad here in the for sale area. He is a newbie too . I just chuckled and thought "good luck". Haha

If you would notice that I was first to comment on his post, yes I did see it. I just didn't feel a need to post it here :bonk: The individual prices are a little more realistic.

Crap that's rediculous.

Sold a member here my 14 strobe that included a mastercom and TA controller thing weighted 60lbs sent to VA and it only cost 34.24 and that same bar if i were to ship at this years prices would be about 45.00.

I would never ship express unless the buyer was in a hurry to get it.

Try and go the cheapest route.

Sterling Sirenlite $500
Federal 17A Beacon Ray lights $200 each

They're in TN...TN isn't one of the states that just legalized pot, is it? Skip...give this guy a piece of your mind (I would, but I can't afford to give any up).

Old Fire & Police vehicle equipment

No way he'll get $500 for the old Sterling siren. He shows two sirens: one on the old truck and one on an elevated bracket. The one on the truck is too old and rugged to ask more than $50 for, but the other one, a Model 30, is in decent shape. He might get $150 for it, but I don't see $500. He might get what he wants on the beacons, since the 17As are becoming a bit scarce. Can't gripe at him...he didn't leave contact info!
