175 cleanup question

This has been staring at me for about a year, figured I would tackle it.

Doing the initial cleanup, and the insides have some corrosion, it appears like a white powder residue. When I did my initial cleaning it appeared as if I had managed to largely remove the powder look.

I am not looking to fully tear this down and replate.. I am just looking to reduce or remove the corrosion.

Any ideas? Vinegar? WD-40?

Try both on different spots…see if one works better than another.

When aluminium "rusts" it shows up as a white powder. Wipe down real good with vinegar/water solution and apply aluminium polish to keep it at bay. There's a company called shark skin that makes a product for truck diamond plate boxes that works well.

WD40 with a toothbrush. Does wonders. Here’s a model 17 that was really crusty and screeched when it ran. Simple cleaning with WD and it ran smooth.

Just be aware that WD-40 is not a good lubricant, it will dry and become gummy with time.

Agreed. I was citing WD40 does wonders for a cursory cleaning of crusty or greasy metal. For gear lubes I use white lithium or Sil Glyde.
