Star Interceptor 8300 Series?

I have a chance to buy a used Star Interceptor 8300 series 36 inch Amber/clear bar for 250.00. it's custom I think with two fast and two standard rotators, 6 flashers on back, 4 on front with take downs and allies. I was sent a video and it looks great. figured a 36" would be perfect on my 1998 Ranger, so I'm strongly consider dering getting it.

are these worth the price of 250? I've been told these are "china bars" I think that means they are cheaply made? I want to be visible in the day, are they pretty good at daylight visibility? Any info on this bar or experience, would be cool. I can't find much info on these.

I tried to fit an 47" Mx7000 on my Ranger, but I gave up, plus can't find any amber lenses..

I do not know about the bar itself (and the pic is not very good) but those appear to be factory Star rotators. I have a couple of them and they are good/comparable to the MX for light output (better then a jetsonic but not as good as an LP6000). I feel like $250 is at least $100 more then what it is worth but I am not familiar with that bar. If it is what you are looking for, clean and available, it might be worth picking up. If you are not in a rush I would definately keep searching if they are firm on price.

These were similar to the later Code 3 Excalibur series in the sense that there was a small "lower level". These bar had everything an excalibur would minus the intersection lights or oscilasers. They often were strobe rotator combos and the strobe heads were actually pretty decent on the upper level using metal. The corner lower strobes used a single head attached power supply and a small plastic reflector. The bars were about 5 years behind the curve as far as what was popular at the time. I had a "loaded" one with literally zero empty spaces and sold it for $250 when they were still in use alongside other similar bars. I would not pay much for one, maybe $100. I don't consider them old enough to be collectable or new enough to use, which could change. Over all a decent bar when they came out, nothing super special then or now.

The seller is local, used to be an officer then a fire chief, and now does refabs of light bars. I bought a Jetstrobe from him before. The interceptor has a new power cable and I think he added two fast rotators and rearranged the flashers. At 36 inches this would fit my ranger pickup a lot better than my mx7000. I'm not looking really for the vintage value for the project I'm doing, just needs to be a rotator, cause I don't like anything else. I'll probably just get it, and I know he will service it and help later if something needs fixed. Won't let me load a video.

He also has an all amber, 48 inch star bar for 200.

250 is overpriced by $150 all day. The light output on the rotators in these is disappointing to say the least and they aren't the most durable.

I do not know where my light obsession came from... I think I'll throw on my LED mini and call it a day. Still going to make yard lights out of my LP Force and Areodynic tho
