KANSAS CITY, Mo. --

Police released Wednesday to KMBC-TV dramatic video of officers chasing a wrong-way driver on Tuesday afternoon. The pursuit ended when the suspect collided with three other vehicles on U.S. 71.

The video shows an officer driving the wrong way down U.S. 71 in pursuit of the driver and captures the horrifying sounds of the crash. The officer had raced along side streets in Kansas City at speeds topping 70 mph before catching sight of the driver on U.S. 71.

Six people were hurt when the red pickup truck hit a vehicle traveling on 55th Street and pushed that vehicle into two stopped cars. The injuries in the collision ranged from serious to minor.

The driver, Brian K. Rimmer, 30, of Kansas City, was charged with eight felonies in connection with the crash. His bond was set at $250,000, according to court records.

On the dash cam video, the officer at the scene orders the driver five times to "Get on the ground" after the crash.

The officer then checks on other drivers involved in the collision.

"Start a couple of MAST (ambulances.) Are you OK, bud?" the officer asks one driver.

Other officers and drivers scramble to assist those hurt.

Records show Rimmer was just released from a Missouri prison in April after entering in January.

He was convicted in 2006 of possessing a controlled substance and assaulting a law enforcement officer. He was sentenced to a 7-year prison sentence. Missouri officials say the driver has been in and out of prison since 2006 for parole violations.

Jackson County prosecutors charged Rimmer with five counts of second-degree assault in connection with the chase and crash. He also was charged with tampering with a motor vehicle, fleeing and operating a vehicle with a revoked license.

Rimmer has prior driving convictions, according to court documents.

The chase lasted 25 minutes. It began at a Raytown Walmart. Police said they saw the occupants of the stolen pickup breaking into cars. As they moved in for an arrest, the driver took off.

KMBC photojournalist Jeff Roberts said the driver left the Walmart going the wrong way and continuing driving westbound in the eastbound lanes of Highway 350 before winding his way over on U.S. 71.

OK, just read some replies from KC residents about the chases:

KANSAS CITY, Missouri - Two police chases in two days, is too much for some Kansas City residents. A police chase ended Wednesday at 28th and Brooklyn. Stop sticks brought the chase to an end.

Claudia Thomas lives in the neighborhood and doesn’t think there should have been a chase.

“It doesn’t make any sense, my grandchildren live here, other people’s children live here,” Thomas insisted. The police were chasing this man I mean it was like 50 police cars and I don’t understand because yesterday they just had a chance with people going the wrong way on the highway and six people got hurt.”

Police explain that on Tuesday, police started chasing the suspect but later slowed-down and kept their distance hoping that the stolen truck suspect would slow down. The chase ended at 71 Highway and 55th Street with six people injured.

Elroy Stanley was on 71 Highway when the suspect passed him going the wrong way.

“He looked like he was scared, he looked like he was running for his life,” said Stanley.

Stanley blames the injuries on the suspect, not police.

“The way I understood by what I saw, police was only doing their job.”

Thomas says murder should be the only reason police pursue a suspect endangering innocent people.

“I’m glad I’m moving to Florida in a couple of weeks,” Thomas explained. “This is ridiculous.”

Oh, sorry citizens that your asshole neighbors are stealing shit and hurting people.

You know what, why don't y'all get ticked at the cops, after all, they are just a bunch of mumbling idiots that drive up the wrong side of a highway for no reason, right?

And now my comments:

How is it the fault of the police that their suspects decided to run 2 days in a row? I for one, am glad that they pursued the criminals, because otherwise those people would do it again. Citizen Thomas does not deserve to live in a place where the police "god forbid" do their jobs. The idea is just "ridiculous". The dispatchers of Kansas City should next time contact each of their citizens and ask for permission to catch fleeing suspects prior to sending officers to an incident's location.

Did anyone notice at the beginning of the vid how cars kept crossing the intersection before the cop was able to cross? I counted 10 morons!

Well i guess they exist in every state...we get 3 or 4 atleast in each intersection when trying to cross with an ambulance either w/ or without a patient inside responding code3

The same ignorant/oblivious people driving past the loud, blinking car are probably the same people leaving dumbass comments.

You can't fix stupid. :|

With growing age and wisdom (I think) in my neck of the woods, chasing is really going out of style. Unless there is immediate life/safety danger, we don't chase. Wrong way drivers/suspects would be a toss up.

Think about it...why are you chasing them? Simple larceny, vehicle burglary? In the daytime in many states - its not a felony. Granted the stolen truck is...but are you willing to risk your life and that of others over a piece of metal? You know the truck is stolen, you have his buddies (didn't see the video but gathered that his friends were left and arrested in the parking lot) its not like you can't find out who the dirt bag is.

Thats why god invented warrants.

Its interesting when you meet people from various parts of the country and what they are allowed to do.

West coast..chase but have a good reason and don't do anything that you can get arrested for in 15 different video angles including the helicopter shots

Midwest..Its most likely your neighbor/cousin/friend and you know where they live...or a known dirtbag. They will screw up and you'll get them another day or they turn themselves in. Chases are short but cool

New England/East Coast...chase? Hell no. We get in trouble because someone will be delayed in traffic and there will be an internal conducted.

Southeast (Starting in NC and working to Georiga): Boy, don't come back to the county without him.

Absolute No Chase policies are cowardice, plain and simple.

Bad guys run, we chase.

Taking into acount time of day, traffic, weather and the like is common sense. Too bad many supers and admin types forgot what the road is like.

Idiot criminals. And what are the first words after hes caught? Ooo OOooOoo Im hurt, I broke my leggggg. I need an ambulance. Crying for help from the police. Sorry pal, your the least one to get assessed here.
