Strange button on passanger Door

While installing mirror beams on my Vic ive discovered an aftermarked button with cut wires. These wires seem to go to the door-ajar switch but have been cut in multiple places. The driver side door does´nt have this modification. Any idea why its there, what its purpuse is/was?
The car was originaly a patrol unit at the Police Department in Vallejo (CA) from 02-08 before it was then decomissioned and exported to germany in 2013 where it was restickerd as a CHP crown vic. I own the car since October of last year.

That was my guess aswell, i may just wired it back up and check. currently my vic has no door chime and the dome light also doesn´t come on when i open any door. Thought it was the "blackout" version but i might just be that button thats not hooked up anymore.

Have you emailed Vallejo PD? The Smart Guy in the Fleet shop will know ... or just call them and speak to a Patrol Officer.

My guess is Rifle/Shotgun rack release. That box may actually be a timer.

Tactically, you could find the secret unmarked release button either as a passenger, or from the open passenger door providing concealment, then reach in an pull a long gun out without having to sit in the car and look at 21 control buttons under the MDC.

I had a Unit with a similar momentary button in the knee guard under the headlight switch on a 2004 Crown Vic. Activated both Rifle and Shotgun locks for 8 seconds. Push button with left finger, grab gun with right hand, just that quick.

Is the switch Momentary or does it actually "click" like an off/on switch? If momentary than I would say it is a gun release button for the passenger.
